Property description

In Corrèze, in the historic city of Uzerche, a bailiff's house from the 15th century, modified in the 17th century, with its enclosed garden. Situated along the main road that borders the western side of the ancient city walls dotted with terraced gardens, overlooking the gorges of the Vézère, hotels and castles testify to the administrative power of the city gained with its loyalty to the kingdom of France, then increased with its establishment as a sénéchaussée in the 16th century. The city center is carefully maintained with urban developments that prioritize the unity of their architectural heritage. Originally composed of two adjoining buildings, the three-story house is now united to form a single mansion, while still retaining its two entrance doors to facilitate circulation. The entire building is attached to both sides of the gables. Facing east from the street, the façade of rubble with brushed lime plaster has been modified over the centuries by the royal officers of the place, known as the "culs blancs." Two large arches alternate with the two entrance doors. The first, with a pointed arch, still has its sturdy double-leaf studded door and its tympanum is protected by decorative ironwork. The second is more modest with its single leaf and its transom armed with bars. The vaults of former larger bays mark the façade, without detracting from the harmony of the modénature. The first floor is illuminated by three archivolte windows with shutters and typical stone frames from the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Two twin rectangular windows precede a third window in accolade with quadruple molded wand to the right. Covered with a perfectly maintained slate roof from Allassac with bulging dormer windows, it is mansarded on one side and gabled on the other. On the west side, a large terrace on arches communicates with the ground floor salons and overlooks the terraced gardens of the residence. The rear facade has large windows with wooden frames that illuminate the various rooms with a light that passes through all day long. On the other side of the street, a dependency allows for parking of a vehicle. The property is truly a unique gem with a rich history and architectural character. It offers a tranquil garden oasis within the historic city of Uzerche. Priced at $615,000, considering the historical significance and the size of the property, this could be a great investment opportunity for those looking for a piece of history in a charming French town.
